Day off.
I'm off. Nothing to do. I've slept late, read the emails, done facebook, getting ready for a shower. Then what? I love the "nothingness" on my calendar for today. Some folks love to have a PLAN. It's ok, but I'm cool with just sailing by the wind today. I might go work in the garage. I might go back to bed.......

Who do you believe?
I admit, I do have trouble beleiving everything people in positions of authority have to say. I've known leaders of industry, leaders of churches, leaders of communities, and leaders of organizations from profit to non-profit, and almost all seem to share some common traits. Some are in it to serve, but most are in it for the love of power. Some do their leadership roles as a form of public/private service. Those are the good guys. The others do it as a form of risk/reward. That's the bad guys. Unfortunately, there aren't many good guys in Washington. Lies, manipulation, special interest groups and deception run amuck in Washington. We've got leaders who lie on a daily basis. With no reservations. It is pitiful. Looks like the fall of integrity in America is almost complete. Lies on Healthcare, Immigration and budget deficit issues seem to be the norm for each day's agenda. I hope we can survive until good leaders return to power. Lord willing and the creek don't rise....

Life.....
Yeah, I know, it's what you make of it, right? You live, you learn, you do, you die. Then what? There's been a lot of death going on in my family this year, not to mention friends of the family. It's always happening, all around, but when it's YOUR family, it really hits home (no pun intended). One thing I've learned is that you can't really empathize with someone on a problem they're facing, unless you've lived it yourself. When I lost my Dad, it was the friends of mine who'd already lost a loved one who were able to bring me the most comfort. Friends I'd not spoken to in years called me. Searched for me. Made sure I knew that they were thinking of me. They were not given that comfort by me when they'd lost their mom or dad, yet here they were reaching out to me. It's made me think about that as a special gift. I had a friend who's mother died recently. I called him. Just to talk. Kind of like "passing it on". I hope it helped.

The First Blog
Ok.....I'm 46. I'd say that's middle-aged. Hence the name. What do I have to share? It depends on the topic, time of the day, and whether or not I'm caught up on sleep. Never thought I'd do a blog, but hey, I never thought of what life would be like at 46.
What will this blog be about? Not sure. Most likely a discussion of life's learnings, leanings, and things I'd like to think I've picked up along the way. 46 seems young, but old to so many millions around the world. So, I'm guessing I've got something worth sharing.
I think the #1 thing to share is that I'm a Christian, and have my foundation built on that. My political, philosophical, and worldly values are built around the principles of Christ (I hope). I'm sure my personal interpretations will get things confused from time to time, but it's an honest mistake.
Topic of discussion for the day: You're married to someone for 21 years, and you still find out something new about them almost each and every day. Sometimes it's good too!
